ROAD TRIP 2005

In typical Meaghan-Adam fashion, Adam and I spent our vacation (all 2.5 weeks of it) on the road.  We saw parts of the country we had never seen before, and had an absolute blast while doing it.  This is a taste of what we saw, and the places we went.  I wish every day was a vacation.  :o)

TEXAS

These were taken at a rest stop just inside the Texas line.  We had come from Oklahoma, and after seeing a car flip itself over on the other side of the road, I certainly needed to get out of the car and get a breath of fresh air.  They had some really neat places to just have a picnic and enjoy the view...or what they considered a view.  It's so incredibly barren out there.

SANTA FE, NM

These shots were taken in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  We didn't have much more than an afternoon to explore, but I'll definitely be heading back to this city.  It is one of the coolest places I've ever been.  You walk down the streets, and you feel like you're in a Mexican village.  These are a few shots of the buildings (more specifically, 2 churches) that we saw while we were there.  I want to go back!!

FOUR CORNERS:  CO, AR, UT, NM

How many people can say they've been in 4 states at the same time??  :o)

BEAR LAKE, UT
While traveling through the northern part of Utah, we came across this beautiful lake called Bear Lake.  It's nestled into land that you have to weave through, but the view was worth it.  The town at the base of the lake was about to have its "Raspberry Festival", which bummed me out because we were going to miss it, but I'm just glad that the weather held off long enough for me to grab a few shots of the water.

DEVIL'S GATE, WY
Devil's Gate is an incredible rock formation that Adam and I came across while traveling through Wyoming.  It's on a piece of property owned by a group of Mormons, and just crops out out of nowhere.  It lies right along the Oregon Trail, and just down the road from it is a spot called Independence Rock.

NEBRASKA

Adam and I (again, it the middle of nowhere) found a spot to pull over and enjoy some of the scenery of Nebraska.  It truly is a different world out west.

MOUNT RUSHMORE, SD
What would a trip be in this neck of the woods, without seeing Mount Rushmore.  Of course...when Adam and I went to Rushmore, it was the week before Sturgis...so there were a TON of Harley's.  We also went through a horrible thunderstorm while going through the mountains...but in the end, it was all worth it.

SUNFLOWERS, ND
Alright...so Adam thought I was crazy...but in North and South Dakota, we started seeing fields and fields of Sunflowers.  It's something the farmers grow out there (you need sunflower seeds afterall!).  But when we went by, they were in bloom, and I couldn't help myself.  :o)  I even caught a monarch butterfly on one.  :o)
