Business MN 371 is one of only two Business routes in Minnesota that are on the state trunk highway system.  When the MN 371 Brainerd bypass was constructed (and opened in 2000), the old section through Brainerd was originally proposed for turnback.  After negotiations with the city of Brainerd and Crow Wing County, MnDOT agreed to retain control and maintenance of the old MN 371 route in return for MnDOT turning back portions of three other routes to the city and county:  MN 25 north of MN 210 (to its end in Merrifield) was turned back to the county and became an extension of CSAH 3.  MN 18 was turned back between MN 210 and MN 25 and the short, two-block-long MN 322 was turned back in its entirety.  Both routes became Brainerd city streets.
