Oahu
Background:
I-H1 is my fantasy version based heavily on the existing I-H1 freeway on the island of Oahu in Hawai'i. Taking the existing I-H1 as a baseline, I have revised several interchanges and added extensions on each end, along segments of existing Farrington Hwy (HI 93) and Kalanianaole Hwy (HI 72) that see heavy traffic as feeders to/from existing I-H1 in the real world.
Fictional I-H1 begins in Nanakuli, at the junction of Farrington Hwy and Lualualei Naval Rd. It follows Farrington Hwy southeast to the start of real-life I-H1. This segment of Fictional I-H1 would be a 4-lane urban freeway, depressed as much as realistically possible with several overpasses, frontage roads, and access ramps in Nanakuli, plus the existing interchange at Aliinui Dr on the west edge of the Honokai Hale community.
Fictional I-H1 then follows existing I-H1 for its entire length, with additional lanes or interchange improvements as needed. In particular would be a lot of ramp realignment/addition/removal on the older Lunalilo Freeway segment.
East of existing I-H1, Fictional I-H1 continues east along Kalanianaole Hwy to the Lunalilo Home Rd junction, where it would transition back to existing Kalanianaole Hwy. This segment would also be a 4-lane urban freeway, flanked by one-way frontage roads from existing I-H1 to Kawaihae St. At Lunalilo Home Rd, Fictional I-H1 transitions to Fictional HI 72...my idea of a Kalanianaole Hwy reroute and upgrade.
