Overview:
Over the years, the Locust and Jenner have been very popular both among Inner Sphere and Clan forces. This has spawned many variants, but few mechs have matched the success of either machine. The HRV-T4 Harvester project is an attempt to construct a mech that offers the same versatility as the two aforementioned mechs. Only time will tell, however, if it matches their success.
Capabilities:
The Harvester's primary weapon system is centered around a potent LRM-10 launcher built into a Locust-like chassis. Providing long-range striking capability is not typical of a light mech, making the Harvester a rare commodity. The mech's secondary weaponry consists of a pair of medium-range lasers, located in the right torso position. The left side contains two tons of CASE-enclosed LRM rounds. Essentially a running missile platform, the HRV-T4 can dash around the battlefield, laying down cover fire for its lancemates while minimizing the risk to itself.
The only major drawback is the limited armor characteristic of most light mechs. Even with maximum armor for its size, the Harvester is no exception, so should it become disabled, the pilot's best course of action is to eject. The mech relies on its speed and firepower to surprise the enemy and keep it out of danger, and when those elements are lost, it is time to retreat.
Deployment:
The bulk of the Harvesters shipped so far have been purchased for the purpose of replacing other destroyed light mechs, including Locusts and Jenners. Additional units may be found in light fire support lances.
Variants:
The HRV-T5 is an experimental model that uses some of the most recent technology developed in the Inner Sphere. The Medium Lasers are replaced with new Sutel Line Extended-range Medium Lasers. And although a half-ton of LRM ammunition is removed, the remaining rounds are enclosed in experimental CASE II, providing substantially improved protection against ammo explosions and giving the mech a decent chance of surviving one and remaining operational.
Two HRV-T5 Harvesters have been produced and are assigned to the Davion Light Guards for operational testing. Further production hinges upon the results of the tests.
