Yellowstone National Park

For whatever reason, the U.S. routes that approach the various entrances to Yellowstone National Park do not continue through the park grounds (possibly because the roads within the park are maintained by the National Park Service and not WYDOT or MTDOT).

My suggestion is to maintain route continuity by continuing the various routes through the park, as detailed below:

• Begins at US 89/191/287 at West Thumb
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Lake Village
• Follows East Entrance Rd to the East Entrance

• Enters via West Entrance
• Follows West Entrance Rd to Madison
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Norris
• Follows Norris Canyon Rd to Canyon Village
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Lake Village
• Follows East Entrance Rd to the East Entrance

• Enters via South Entrance
• Follows South Entrance Rd to West Thumb
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Mammoth Hot Springs via Madison and Norris
• Follows North Entrance Rd to the North Entrance

• Enters via South Entrance
• Follows South Entrance Rd to West Thumb
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Madison
• Follows West Entrance Rd to the West Entrance.

• Begins at US 89 in Mammoth Hot Springs.
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Tower Junction.
• Follows Northeast Entrance Rd to the Northeast Entrance.

• Enters via South Entrance
• Follows South Entrance Rd to West Thumb
• Follows Grand Loop Rd to Madison
• Follows West Entrance Rd to the West Entrance.

The following duplexes would be created or extended by this proposal:

• US 14/20 - Lake Village to East Entrance
• US 20/89 - Madison to Norris
• US 20/191/287 - West Entrance to Madison
• US 89/191/287 - South Entrance to Madison via West Thumb

One road segment would not have a US route designation under this proposal, that segment being Grand Loop Rd from Tower Junction to Canyon Village.  This road segment could become a Wyoming state route...WY 320 as an example.

While US 16 comes to the East Entrance in real life, another of my proposals would truncate it further east, to where it would no longer touch Yellowstone National Park and thus would not apply to this proposal.
