MN 98 was an original alignment of US 8, while what is now US 8 used to be MN 98 prior to 1954. In the mid '50s, what was then MN 98 was upgraded and realigned from near Chisago City south to Forest Lake, and the two routes were swapped. MN 98 was turned back in 1996, becoming Chisago CSAH 22.
